On March 4, 2013, Nasdaq issued a proposed new rule that, if approved by the Securities and Exchange Commission, will require listed companies to establish and maintain an internal audit function.  This proposed rule mirrors a similar requirement for companies listed on the New York Stock Exchange. Although the Cyber Intelligence Sharing and Protection Act (CISPA) passed in the House on a bipartisan vote, the Cybersecurity Act of 2012 (CSA) failed to advance in the Senate. Ongoing congressional debate revolves around privacy concerns in the House bill (CISPA) and federal security standards in the Senate CSA.
